If you're like me, you've probably been wondering how you would determine your skin type. Knowing your skin type is the most important step to understand in caring for your skin. Your skin is your body's largest organ and it is as complex and intelligent as any other vital organ. Knowing your skin type will help you choose the right options that will balance your skin resulting in a healthier, radiant complexion. Skin type is more of a spectrum than a group and everyone's skin falls somewhere on the spectrum of either normal, dry, oily, combination or sensitive skin. Every persons skin is unique and skin type can change throughout the years                                                            GUIDE TO SKIN TYPE OILY SKIN: You know you  have oily skin if your skin constantly looks greasy and shiny within hours of cleansing. oily skin has large pores and is prone to acne and breakouts, this is due the excess sebum (natural oil produced by your skin which helps

Dry Skin Care Routine

Dry skin is parched all year round even after you have moisturized. To prevent your skin from feeling dry, flaky and uncomfortable, you need a routine that helps it hold onto moisture. You need to acquire moisture from external sources to compensate for the lack of natural oil production of your skin. The upside to having a dry skin is that you rarely get acne, blackheads and breakouts and the downside is that you are likely to get wrinkles and fine lines earlier that those with oily skin.

Skin Care Routine

Cleansing: while cleansing can be harsh on dry skin, it is no excuse to avoid it all together. Cleanse your skin twice daily, morning and night. Foam and gel cleansers usually are too harsh for your dry skin, cleansing milk however is ideal for dry skin as it keeps your skin moisturized and hydrated.
Exfoliating: exfoliate once or twice a week morning or night whichever time you prefer. Dry skin people feel they shouldn't exfoliate as their skin is already dry, its actually the other way round, when you have a dry skin dead skin cells will form on top of the skin which creates a barrier and then the moisture you put on top of your skin doesn't fully get absorbed . stay away from physical exfoliants as they can cause micro tears in your skin instead use exfoliants that contain BHA and AHA (chemical based exfoliants).
Toning: toners rebalances pH, removes every cleanser and makeup residues and gets your skin prepped for what's to come next. When buying a toner look for products that explicitly state they are for hydration. You want to look for ingredients such as rose (known for it's toning power) and hyaluronic acid ( hydration).
Essence: essences primes your skin and it is different from a toner because it contains contains loads of hydrating properties that process your skin to absorb ingredients better, faster and efficiently, it is patted on the skin while a toner is basically a wipe off that preps up your skin.
Serums: serums work on your dermis where cell turnover happens like your elastin and collagen production. I don't need to tell you to always pick up hydrating serums. you can also pick up serums to take care of any other skin issue you're experiencing for example wrinkles. You could find a serum that does both ( i.e.  a serum that contains both anti-aging and hydrating ingredients) or you could layer up your serums.
Moisturizing:  moisturizers are saviors to dry skin. Use your moisturizers twice daily. Look for moisturizers formulated for dry skin type. You can also use beauty oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, vitamins E oil, rosehip etc. in place of moisturizers.
Eye cream: time to take care of the most sensitive skin of your face. Under eye cream is important you should start using eye creams as the skin around your eyes is so sensitive, it shows aging the fastest. A good eye cream should help to combat dark circles too.
Sunscreen: sunscreen should be used during the day time to protect your skin for harmful UV rays, always pick up sunscreens rated at least spf30. You could also use a sunscreen moisturizer combo(sunscreen that contains moisturizing ingredients) as you have dry skin. Your sun protection shouldn't stop there, always take additional steps like limiting your amount of time in the sun especially between 10am to 2pm where the sun is at it's peak, seek shade and cover up exposed area of your body.

Bonus step-facial mask
While you don't need to wear facemask often, making time for it a few mornings each week will do your dry skin a lot of good, it is best to apply facemasks on the days you exfoliate-not to mention its a very relaxing experience

Dry Skin Care Mistakes To Avoid
1. Cleansing too often.
2. Using harsh cleansers.
