Essential oils to keep hyper-pigmentation at bay


Hyperpigmentation is a skin disorder that is characterized by dark or white patches over the face or body as a result of skin inflammation, sun damage, bad reaction to skin care products, hormonal fluctuations, acne scars and the list goes on.. hyper-pigmentation isn't pretty, to learn how to even out your skin tone with essential oils keep on reading.....

Carrot seed essential oil
Carrot seed oil is rich in beta carotene, the compound responsible for giving carrot it's unique orange color. Beta carotene reduces hyper-pigmentation by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase which produces melanin. Here's quick fact: it takes about 3000 carrot seeds to squeeze out one teaspoon of oil.

Lemon essential oil
This is a very potent oil for hyper-pigmentation. Lemon essential oil is gotten from the peels oof lemon, it is very concentrated in limonene which lightens skin and even out skin tone. This oil however should not be applied during day time because it is photosensitive and increases the skin's sensitivity to UV rays. It is very very potent so even when applying at night time you must dilute it with a carrier oil or your night cream.

Lavender essential oil
Lavenders blue dilly dilly lavenders green...you love that song right? I do too! That's by the way, what you need to know right now is that lavender essential oil is excellent for fading of scars and post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation caused by acne.

Rose essential oil
Roses are beautiful and so are the benefits of rose essential oil for the skin. This oil was discovered by a Persian princess and is used to treat a lot of skin disorders. Rose essential oil brightens dull and discolored skin and is used to even out hyper-pigmentation.

Bergamot essential oil
Derived from bergamot orange, bergamot oil is excellent for treating hyper-pigmentation due to it's antimicrobial, antiseptic and astringent properties. It encourages skin regeneration and healing making it ideal for preventing new scars while simultaneously fading old ones. But just like lemon essential oil, bergamot essential oil should be used only during the night time as it is very photosensitive.

Take home message: only use 100% pure essential oils and always dilute them with carrier oil before use in the ration 2 drops essential oil in one tsp of carrier oil.
